AmeriCares shipped a truckload of bottled water to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix, Arizona through a partnership with Nestle Waters North America and Feeding America in response to the wildfires in Yarnell, Arizona that claimed lives and destroyed homes. The water from the shipment is being provided to disaster survivors, emergency responders, and volunteers.
The fire that began on June 28 and lasted for over a week spread across 8,400 acres, killing 19 firefighters and destroying more than 100 homes. It began with a strike of lightning and spread rapidly due to the triple-digit temperatures, low humidity, severe drought conditions and strong winds.
AmeriCares has provided emergency response following several fires and natural disasters throughout the United States. In 2012, AmeriCares has responded to natural disasters such as the wildfires in Colorado and Hurricane Sandy, as well as supplying medical assistance to 47 states. AmeriCares also works to provide emergency medical assistance and health care needs to more than 90 countries around the world.
