Helping Heart Patients Add Healthy Years to their Lives

On World Heart Day and everyday, AmeriCares works to provide lifesaving medicines, supplies, and education to help save lives and improve health outcomes for people suffering from cardiovascular disease.Heart attack, stroke and other heart diseases are especially deadly in low- and middle-income countries, where 80 percent of all deaths from cardiovascular disease occur. In these countries, where access to treatment is limited, heart conditions cripple and kill.On World Heart Day and every day, AmeriCares medicines and training save lives around the world by giving doctors the tools they need to diagnose and treat patients in need. In fiscal 2013 we delivered $82 million in cardiovascular medicines and supplies – an estimated 3.9 million course treatments to help people suffering from heart conditions. We’ve also supported crucial education on nutrition and lifestyle changes to help patients improve their health outcomes.

Patients like Yuldash, Raniel and Mary are just three of the countless heart patients who received the treatment and care they needed to add healthy years to their lives:

Yuldash

Yuldash, a 60-year-old cattle farmer from Uzbekistan, suffered from high cholesterol – putting his health at risk. Yuldash received medications and education he needed to make positive changes in his life.  Now, he can care for his 14 grandchildren and live the life he envisioned for himself.  Read more →

Raniel

Raniel, a fun and energetic 11-year-old from Jamaica suffered from congenital heart disease, a condition that severely restricted his activity level.  An AmeriCares-supported Medical Outreach team gave Raniel the open-heart surgery he needed but could not afford, enablingg him to run and play with friends without risking heart failure. Read more →

Mary

Mary, a hypertension patient at the AmeriCares Family Care Center in El Salvador, has received treatment and valuable education about how to manage her condition with nutritional and lifestyle changes.
